IMPLANTS
Losing a tooth: This is often a fairly traumatic event, but today we have the means to replace it without damaging the other teeth. Just as a crown replaces the visible part of the tooth, an implant replaces the invisible part. When a tooth is extracted, we no longer have a support point to replace the tooth. To do this, we place an implant (false root) in the bone.
Surgery: This is where the implant is placed. Don’t be fooled by the myths surrounding implant surgery:
– The anaesthetic is simple (the same as for a cavity).
– The procedure is quick (30-45 minutes) and painless.
– Post-operative pain is minimal in 95% of cases (less than for extraction).
– Low risk of post-operative complications.
Reconstruction: Once the implants have been placed, they provide a support point for different types of restoration:
– Crowns / Bridges (fixed)
– Press studs (removable appliances)
