PROSTHESES
Made in the laboratory by the dental technician after the dentist has taken an impression. There are different types of prosthesis:
Fixed :
Crowns: when the tooth is too damaged to consider a simple restoration. They are fitted to the root of the tooth and form the visible part of the tooth. If the tooth has undergone root treatment and is too damaged, it is necessary to make a “pivot” or “false stump” to serve as a retention base for the crown.
Bridge :
As its name suggests, this is a bridge that rests on 2 teeth to replace a missing or extracted tooth. This involves preparing the support teeth so that they can receive crowns that will support the tooth suspended above the gum line.
Removable :
Stellites : They can be used to replace several missing teeth. They have a metal frame that is both thin and rigid. This allows the appliance to rest on both the gums and the teeth, helping to distribute forces more evenly. The appliance is held in place by clasps.
Complete prostheses :
They replace all the teeth in a jaw (dentures). They are retained by a suction effect on the gums. Unfortunately, in some cases, retention is insufficient and the absence of a tooth poses a problem. This can be solved by using press studs placed on implants.
